 Loose screws
Author: Greystones
Date:   2003-12-09 22:42

I have a problem with three screws on my Buffet E11 continually needing to be tightened.
I am concerned that this constant tightening may cause a problem with the threads in the future.
Is there anything I can put on the screws to keep them tight.

Loktite 290 should remedy those loose screws [be sure to check that this is the correct one and not the 'permanent' kind... you want the kind that holds stuff in place but will let you un-do when you want.]
Available at your local automotive supply house (department?).

Some folks apply a dab of clear fingernail polish. Make sure there's no oil on the part(s) you want it to stick to. It will break away later when you need to unscrew the pivot.

Loctite 222 is usually recommended. It is a low strength and removable thread lock compound.

( Thanks for the correction, Ken. Definitely get the low strength kind. The last thing we need is to 'weld' the screws in place ) [frown]

Contragirl, for that you need advice from some other BB. Also note that this stuff is NOT for internal consumption :-D

Donald (NZ) recommended locktite 222 which I used with success a year ago, no problem since.

If they will fit, some of the Buffet screws have a soft plastic 'stop' at the end opposite the screw point. Those seem to stay in place well.

I like clear nail polish myself as it's also useful for other purposes and obviates the possibility of buying the wrong loctite
