Anyone out there (been playing clarinet for at least 30 years) remember the D Bonade reeds? Anybody got any left? I found out about them when I first met Pete Fountain and he gave me a couple boxes of 2 1/2s. That is the strength he used on his O'Brien. He claimed they where a hair wider than other reeds and had great response. I don't remember when but all of sudden they where not available from the WW&BW anymore or any store. They did have a little different sound, more toward that famous fat sound. Anybody ever use them?

Bonade reeds (the "Bonade" type, as well as his "Melior" and "Surfine" brands) are discussed in detail in Carol Anne Kycia's book on Daniel Bonade.
Bonade was one of the first clarinetists to market products with his name. These included ligatures, reeds, mouthpieces, and publications.
Bonade's agreement to work for Leblanc began in the late 1940's...GBK
