I recently picked up a used clarinet made by Jean Dumont. It says made in Germany. Does anyone know anything about this make?? Thanks.

Since you have had ro response, I suggest that you Search for "Dumont", we have the ? before, as I recall it is a "stencil" name, sounding French, and made by a lesser-known maker for sale in the US. Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

Hi, carmeljohn! I know it's been a while, but I'd like to know if you still have your Jean Dumont Clarinet. I'd like to buy a Jean Dumont, but I can't find it anywhere! Would you sell it?
Thanks!
Débora

An e-mail to the original poster (if the address is still good after 8 years!) would probably be more effective and more in compliance with the rules of this site.

Best regards,
jnk

Some say it was made in France at the Martin Frẽres factory, but that sounds like a wild guess to me.

I picked up one at an online auction in 2011 for really cheap (some bent keys, rotten / no pads, told the buyer I was taking a risk).

Body is grenadilla, keys are pretty sturdy although the edges may not be as smooth as professional clarinets. It looks like it could've been conceived as a student model.
For the smell and looks, it was probably made during the '60s.

After dissassembly, body cleanup & oiling, key repadding and proper setup & venting, the horn plays nicely in tune (very low pitch deviation).

My clarinet teacher tried it and liked it very much, although the keywork isn't as polished as her Buffet.
