I can't make the opinion call for the alto, but I'll be glad to tell you my experience with both reeds on my soprano clarinet.
The Fibracell is at the very bottom of my case. Actually, I should kick it completely out of my case to leave room for my entire suite of Legere reeds and a couple of Vandoren V-12 reeds. Is this enough of a hint?

I've tried them both. Since my profession is mot music, I have a limited time to devote to clarinet. I prefer to spend time practicing insted of adjusting reeds.
I tried only two different Legeres. My instructor, who has made recordings, did not like the way I sounded on them at all. They were fine for practice to me, but didn't seem to want to vibrate when excess moisture was on them. I basically had to take the reed off the mouthpiece and wipe it off every 20 minutes or so.
My instructor, on the other hand, really likes to way I sound on the Fibercells. He thinks my sound is really close to the sound I get with Mitchell Lourie Premiums. The "feel" of it is close to cane to me, and I have almost used the Fibercells exclusively in practice for over a year now.
In defense of the Legeres, which I know are popular with some people on this board, the particular ones I tried felt a little soft. I probably will try some other Legeres in the future.

I have used the Legere for about 3 months on mu Alto sax and 2 weeks on my clarinet. I find they both perform very good and I am now using the Legere exclusively on my Alto sax. However, as good as I find the Legere's performance on my clarinet up to A Altissimo, I have great dificulty ai getting the notes above A to speak at all. So, when ever I know I will be playing above A, I use my Vandorens. Also, I find the vandorens to have a tonal quality slightly superior to the Legere.
I have no experience with the Fibercells.

I have tried just about every "synthetic" reed there is, if for no other reason than "morbid curiosity"!!! And I have to admit that the principle behind the invention & manufacture of the FibraCell reed sounds good; but all the ones I've tried just don't live up to the claims made by the manufacturer. In my honest & humble opinion, the Legere synthetic reed is the best synthetic reed I've tried to date; and Dr. Guy Legere keeps striving constantly to improve his already high-quality product....which comes the closest to sounding like a high-quality natural cane reed of any synthetic reed I've ever tried. I've made a bit of a game of surreptitiously changing back & forth between my best cane reeds & my Legere reeds during rehearsals & trying out clarinets, etc. and no one to date has been able to effectively & accurately distinguish between the two. Hats off to Dr. Guy Legere.....he's *definitely* onto something great!!! -Debbie Haugh
