i went and purchased a new mini cooper.
went to DMV and tried to get
BUMBLE B (yellow mini) it was gone.
k622 was available (which was hard to believe) so if you see a all yellow mini cooper with K622 lic. plates. you know it is me.
peace

Bob... Sorry to tell you, but a new early Mozart work was recently discovered which made renumbering of the Köchel catalog mandatory. Every work has now been moved up one number. The Concerto is now K.623.

Ok..............Just kidding.

I'll bet it got your attention though.

Good luck with the new car and the new license plate. My car has KLARINET on it (couldn't get CLARINET as it was already taken). A clarinetist friend of mine has K581 (the Quintet) on his car.

A quick story: Many years ago I got stopped by the local police for going a bit too fast (coming home from a gig). Just as I thought I would be receiving my first ticket ever, he looked at my license plate and said: "I played clarinet all through high school. Anyone with KLARINET on their license plate has to be a nice person."

He said to be more careful next time and "Have a nice day."

No ticket ...GBK

That's the reason. While Klarinet is pretty self explanatory to to ANY one even remotely familiar with musical instruments, K622 will only be recognized by those familiar with the numbering system of Mozart's works and will more than likely be recognized more readily by a serious clarinetist. Like a "secret code" of clarinetists.

Personally, I was wondering whether I should personalize my license plate to whatever type of clarinet I end up with in the future. "AMATI614" or "SELMER10" or "USEDR13" or the likes. I'll see if it can fit. However if I end up with a leblanc, I'll have to do some abbreviating unless I manage to afford an opus.

Maybe "KOHLERT" is still available for my next license plate? (The problem is, most people will think it refers to either a lawnmower engine or a brand of toilet......)

If you are not aware, the DMV web site (at least in New York) lets you input a potential customized license plate (vanity plate) to see if it is still available...GBK

California DMV also, but we don't call 'em "vanity plates." Out here the really vain people try to isolate themselves with run-of-the-mill plates.

The only vanity plate I've ever wanted is CRM-114. No musical reference. Anybody know what that refers to?

Ralph, I had to take the bait --- go Google! Apparently CRM-114 is some sort of email SPAM discriminator filter software? N'est-ce pas?

Actually, the spam discriminator software is named after something else. You got the "discriminator" part right.
