Hi,
I play clarinet in my high school band and I've been using the mouthpiece that came with my Buffet e11 clarinet. However I'm looking for a new one because tryouts for state band is coming up. I usually use vandoren traditional 3 or 3.5 reeds, and I've heard the Hite premier is a good mouthpiece, but if there are any other good mouthpieces that might suit me. Also I'm looking to buy a new ligature since I'm using a basic metal one right now. I appreciate any suggestions.

I use Vandoren M15, 5RV and M40.
Ligature: Rovnor Dark. I am quite happy with them.

Hah, I'm with Dave there.
I'm currently using...
Vandoren 5RVLyre Profile 88
Inverted Bonade (soon to be john's velcro? heh!)
Other recommendations from my school dayze:
Larry Combs LC3
Vandoren B45 [dot]
All of these MPs are excellent, and have great flexibility. Your best bet is to get your hands on both the WWBW catalog and IMS catalog. They'll usually let you order three at a time to "try before you buy", and you send back either all of them (if they aren't to your liking), or just the ones you don't want. Be warned, though, of re-stocking fees. Don't scratch them or get teeth marks on them, as well. All of these things they'll "get ya" on.

Listen to Dave, he's generally right about gear.
Look into the readily available stuff in your neighborhood that you may try before purchasing.
I like the Vandoren M30, but one size does not fit all.

Well, even if it's not in your neighborhood, you may want to consider mail ordering and triying them through mail-order sites. There's a lot of ways to narrow down the selection. What facing are you comfortable with? What tip opening? When you figure that out, then you look at the selections that offer you that.
I second the Gigliotti nomination. I play the P-facing with size 3.75 reeds (softer than the recommended strength, but it works).
Also, you may want to look into getting a quality mouthpiece that's from a custom maker (meaning they personally face the mouthpiece) like Hite, Greg Smith, Chadash-Hill, Charles Bay, etc. Or you could get a mass produced mouthpiece that you feel very comfortable with the sound and HAVE it refaced to make it a little easier to play (I went through Dave S. Did good work).
Or you could buy a mouthpiece blank from somewhere (a babbit blank or something) and send it to a mouthpiece refacer to get it going for you.
