 First Solo Performance
Author: coasten1

I volunteered to do a solo with my community college group. I play principal clarinet with this group so I have played solo passages, but it will be my first solo standing in front of an audience. I will be performing Andante and Allegro by C Lefebvre arr L Calliet. It is a nice piece, not too long.

Any suggestions for preparation?
I will also be performing with the group for the rest of the program. I am not sure yet where to place the solo among the concert.

Also, since I will be playing in the group (we are arranged where I will be sitting in the 1st row in front of the director), when it is my solo, how should I walk up to the stage? Just get up with my stand/music and take my place? And after it is done, what do you do? Bow, nod? I do want to address the band for supporting me.

I know I will have the jitters, which is good to keep some focus.

If anyone would like to attend from the area, it is the College of Lake County concert band. The performance is in the Public Arts Building at 4pm on Sun Dec 14th. The program is free.

Suggestions and support welcome. :-)

A thread not long ago gave tips on how to stand, acknowledge orchestra, etc., when soloing:

As for tips, if anyone's intimately familiar with the piece, they'll speak up. It'll likely be some variation of "practice."

And if I were in Illinois, I'd be there.
