 Klezmer music

For the first time in my life I sat down and gave it a good couple hours listening too. I discovered it on my internet radio program and absolutely LOVE it! The use of clarinets (or rather "clarinet" singular for most songs I heard) is great. And it's such fascinating music. I heard one piece, which after some careful listening turned out to be in 7/8 time signature with a tuba playing what would be a string bass or bass guitar line in any other band. And very intriguing melodies too!

Looks like I have something up there to rival my love of chamber music. I have to give it a while of listening too but I like what I hear so far.

For anyone on this board who reads it and hasn't really give it a try, I suggest trying it. I can't recommend any bands or anything as I'm not knowledgable enough, but if you can find an internet radio program (www.netscape.com will provide you with the one that I have that has klezmer music as well as other types) give it a listen!

I'll probably be annoying everyone with posts on this both here and on the klezmer board now too.

Artie Shaw was once told his credenza(sp) on a song(I can't remember which) sounded "Klezmer"......and he said it wasn't intended to be....just a a spur of the moment thing.....BUT.....I'll bet with his Jewish ancestory...It was a subliminal tribute......Klezmer Rules!
