Hi there,
I'm about to recieve my rossi's (blackwood with American bore) next week from Luis Rossi. I can't wait!! I've tried several pairs of Rossi's and thought they were extremely even and smooth with great intonation. I know I'm taking a risk ordering clarinets directly from the maker, of which I won't have tried, but as he makes them to order and specification all my fingers and toes are crossed that they'll turn out as good as my expectations of them are.
Luis Rossi is very obliging and friendly and if you email him will give you all the info and advice you need. Might be worth checking out his website too.
I'm sure I'll be posting notes on here in the week to come regarding my first impressions of the instruments when they arrive......

Also go to Rossi website for good and correct and not advertisement hype information.

I play on large bore rosewood Rossi instruments and have many good things to say about the instrument (sound, intonation, sound, keywork, sound, evenness, sound) and the care that Luis puts into making them and into their upkeep and follow up if and when needed.

I auditioned an American bore Rossi Bb a couple of yers ago and liked it Very Much. However, with being quite pricey (but worth every penny in terms of tone, response and intonation), I could not jusify switching because my LeBlanc Concertos were playing so well. And my wife already says I have "too many clarinets collecting dust". (she doesn't know about the mouthpieces.......)

I played some at the fest this year and was very impressed with the workmanship and playing qualities. Very even across the range. I did not have a tuner on hand, but I did not hear any obvious intonation problems. I thought they were fine instruments.

WWBW sells the Rossi Bb clarinet for $3,795,
while it costs only $3,550 to order directly from Luis Rossi's website.
I wonder why are the dealers of Rossi clarinets selling at a higher price? Its like Buffet or Leblanc letting individual customers purchase their clarinets from their factory at a lower price than their retailers... and you get the maker's personalised service as well...

Let me put in a word for the man himself. I had the pleasure of breaking bread with Luis in Salt lake city. He was one of the nicest person you could ever meet.
i look forword to seeing him again in Washington in July of 2004.
You may want to check out one of his CD's.

Well, I have after several months waiting, recieved my pair of Rossi clarinets. They are blackwood with an American bore.......and ABSOULTELY GORGEOUS! I've only had them about 5 days, and have only played them 15 minutes each day, but as the days go on and the more time I spend on them, the more I put them away in thier case with a big smile.
Firstly, the Bb has the most even sweet warm sound, great intonation, and beautiful keywork. It feels so comfortable and easy on my fingers, the actions seem much less and therefore less effort. It is a little less free blowing than my R13 of 13years, but this is something I will be able to adjust to, and might be something to do with blowing in the instrument.
Now for the A clarinet. This is AMAZING. I don't think I have ever tried an A clarinet which feels so easy with such an even sound. It's like playing a Bb instrument. The intonation is really good and consistant. Again keywork is beautiful. This really makes my R13 prestige seem pitiful.
So all in all I am chuffed to pieces and would recommend these clarinets 100%. Luis Rossi, is also accomodating and helpful, and is in constant contact with me regarding my very small quibbles and impressions. I know I was taking a huge risk ordering a pair of clarinets I had never played on (he makes them to order) but all seems to have worked out just fine! Yipee!!
