There's a very longstanding BBC radio programme where a famous and/or eminent guest is interviewed, and asked to choose the eight "gramophone records" (that means CDs, for our younger listeners!) he would take to a desert island.
So what eight clarinet recordings would people take? To make it more interesting, I think we should impose two restrictions which aren't in the radio show:
- you must choose recordings of eight different composers
- you must choose recordings by eight different clarinet players.
That will avoid the problem of one notorious programme in which the guest, a very famous singer, included seven of her own records.
My choice? I'm afraid I don't have one. As a relative newcomer to the clarinet, I don't think I have enough recordings to make a list. On the other hand, I have to tell my wife what to buy me for Christmas.

If there are so many people on this board unwilling or unable to have a civil and balanced discussion about important issues, then I shan't bother to post here any more.
To the great relief of many of you, no doubt.

I have so many great CDs I would not be able to pull out 8 only, were I to be castaway on this hypothetical desert island.
I know it defeats the purpose of your question, but I would prefer to just take the horn and while away the days/months awaiting rescue by woodshedding - really I would!

"I would prefer to just take the horn"
You can take your clarinet, or your trumpet or horn or tuba for that matter. It would be allowable as your one "luxury" item, in addition to your eight records. It is likely you would be permitted a large supply of reeds as well.
However, a grand piano is not allowable as a luxury, unless you promise the interviewer not to use it as a shelter.
Perhaps I should try a different thread - what ONE instrument would you take with you?

I read someplace the most valuable thing you can have when stranded somewhere is a mirror or some type of reflective surface. Then you can signal ship or planes to rescue you. So any 8 nice shiny CD's will do. Preferably a mix of Marcellus, Jon Manasse, Pete Fountain, Sabine Meyer, and a bit of Lyle Lovett thrown in.

It's off topic I know, but I first "read" about this when I was a kid and devouring a DD comic. There was DD you see, with Daisy - shipwrecked - he tried everything to console her (almost) without success, however H, D & L were also stranded and found Daisy a mirror (and a comb) and of course they became Daisy's heroes much to D's displeasure.
Ah, yes, a grand piano would be great, however I'd need someone to accompany.
