has anyone any recommendations for recordings of stockhausen's clarinet music, especially for solo clarinet. has anyone performed "und freundshaft" or any other of his music?

Check the International Clarinet Assn. web site master index (www.clarinet.org/Research, I think) to find out the issue that discussed Stockhausen. There's a lot of background info in that issue.

I heard Igor Begleman play that work. It was a very Igor like piece. He performed it by memory - a feat in itself.

A good recording of the Stockhausen is on a CD entitled "20th Century Music for Unaccompanied Clarinet" with Paul Meyer playing. It's a great reference CD for other pieces as well. It is on the Denon label, #CO-78917.

Last week I saw Roger Heaton , a British clarinettist, play a program of contemporary clarinet music including the Stockhausen. A very difficult work and he played it using the composer's recommended actions of the clarinet -positioning the instrument in the air at heights appropriate to the high or low notes of the music. Apparently there is also a dance routine to accompany it ! The Meyer CD is the current one available here in the UK.Roger Heaton has a CD of similar music Hymnos on Clarinet Classics- try their web site www.clarinet-classics.ndirect.co.uk

Igor danced around on stage, and it was almost different from the dancing he does anyway when he plays.
