Hi,
1. Does anyone use a crystal mouthpiece?
2. Does anyone know about a tone exercise using the mouthpiece and barrel to produce an f#? If so, could you please explain it to me? And, is it the barrel minus the bell?
If I'm asking dumb questions or ones that have been answered before, please bear with me :-)

Yes, Rev, many of us play on glass/crystal mps, my best for bass and alto [now] cls are glasses made by Pomarico of Italy, their playing qualities are just superior, for me! [There are many good mps!]. I have several crystals for soprano cls and several good hard rubber mps, but play my sops infrequently any more. Their "wearing" qualities seem to be the best [short of metals], are fine-appearing, BUT require care, dont drop them! As embouchure-learning is often taught, by using mp/reed/barrel [beginner practice], it gives a tolerable sound. If desired, the upper joint could be added and an open G etc practiced. As you can see, the bell only attaches to the lower joint. More ?'s ? Don

I searched the archives and saw that a lot of folks here like the Pomarico. I just ordered (back-ordered) the mellow Emerald and the mellow and bright of the Ruby. Weirner let's you try them out for 7 days and then return the ones you don't want. It costs $4.00 a piece for the return, plus the sender's postage.
Fun, fun. Can't wait to try them out :-))
