I have had the best luck with baritone sax reeds. Depending on the mouthpiece you are using, they may be a bit too wide, but you can carefully and judiciously narrow them to fit the rails properly. If you search the BB, you will find advice on buying stronger reeds and then working them down to playable status. Good luck.

My Selmer contra-alto mouthpiece takes Vandoren bass sax reeds. For more, see http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f=1&i=60996&t=60978 .

Best regards.

Most bari sax reeds work just fine on contra-alto. In contrast to some of our esteemed posters, I recommend harder reeds rather than softer (I use #4 or harder bari sax reeds, e.g. Fred Hemke, Vandoren, Glotin, Rigotti) on a refaced Bundy 3 mouthpiece which has a more open tip and much longer facing than the stock mouthpiece. Doesn't matter if the reed is slightly narrower than the outer edge of the mouthpiece rails, as long as the window is fully covered.

Ever thought of asking your teacher?

Ok, I'm done being a brat. Also, think of asking the clarinet choir teacher so that she can say, ummm, go ask your teacher.
