Hi,
I'm brand new here. I'm 48 and am starting on the clarinet again :-) I played for many years as a kid and then played for a few years about 10 or so years ago.
I'm in the process of buying the Leblanc, France, Noblet model 45 Artist Clarinet. Honestly I don't know anything about this model. Could someone help me out with some info; opinons, et? Also, is this model in the key of C. It seems I've read that it is????

Are you inquiring about a new clarinet or a used one? My personal opinion is that a good used model 45 might be a good choice but that you could do better. The current model is only listed as available in Bb and A. My impression....and that's all it is......is that the 45 is not a real popular model.

Well... it's already on the way :-) It's a used model. I got it on the recommendation of a clarinet teacher. I'm looking for a good model that will serve me well. I'm just average as a player.

I'd like to say hello and welcome too - I've been here probably around a month now, and the BBoard is a brilliant (and very friendly) place. It's also extremely addictive!

BobD - let's try and be helpful instead of inflammatory? As a leblanc player I find the innuendo a little offensive as I don't consider myself an average player.
Rev: I think you'll find it a reasonable mid-level clarinet. Make sure you try out a few before you make your mind up. You might need to take an experience (unbiased) player with you, if you'd feel more comfortable.

The Noblet 45 is a standard intermediate clarinet. The 45 is in Bb. The 45A is in the key of A.
At 14.85mm, the bore is slightly larger than the comparable Buffet E-11. The key configuration is the standard 17/6.
It is a clarinet which should serve you well for many years. Enjoy...GBK

Yes, as GBK says, Noblets in general have a good reputation, they are just "below" LeBlancs in their "line", and some models are said to be fully as good. You will probably need some minor repair [tweaking] by a good cl repairer, and we generally suggest having him/her play it for you, and you try it there yourself to receive any help he can give. Well, I want to say thanks to all the kind words and responses. This seems like a very nice place.
Yes, I misunderstood about being welcomed back to playing clarinet again. Thanks.
No one might know the answer to this but, is the "Artist" version of the 45 a better version. I was told that the Leblanc, France, Noblet model 45 Artist Clarinet, is the best made by Noblet.
Not to beat this to death. I'm just excited about my new toy and want the reassurance that I did make a good purchase and one that will stand by me well.
So, thanks again and I hope to have more fun participating. I'll let you know when the clarinet arrives and what I think. I'm sure I'll love it :-))))

Hi Rev,
Welcome. For quite a few years now, Leblanc has made two Noblet models, the 40 and the 45. Both are intermediate instruments. The 45 is, as you might expect, the higher-end of the two. For awhile (I'm not sure exactly how long) and until quite recently, Leblanc called the 45 the "45 Artist." In their most recent catalog at their website, they seem to have dropped that additional designation though it may still be on the label (the pictures were too small for me to tell).
I think it's almost certain that your clarinet will be a Bb. Leblanc does indeed make model 45's in the keys of A, Eb and C as well as Bb but the C's are fairly rare, particularly in the U.S. (though a clarinetist in one of the community orchestras I play with has one). As I recall, they are rather popular and more readily available in Switzerland -- probably for "folk" music. FWIW, the current list price of the Noblet 45 C is about $1,000 more than the current list price of the Bb.
Based on an older model 45 that I have, I think the teacher made a good recommendation. The instrument should take you a long way. In particular, I think you will find the keywork very comfortable.
