I've been given an Angel Clarinet on indefinate loan from a friend who said its been sitting in a cupboard for 10-15 years. It needs recorking etc. but has anyone heard of this brand at all?

http://www.equinewebaustralia.com/clarinet.html has pics of it.

I thought it might be a cheapie, but it has quite a nice sound. It appears to be resonite of some sort...

"Heavenly!!"

It's like Duke (E) said, "If it sounds good, it is good" (for at least, you, that is)

I would recommend a "playing condition only" proceedure rather than a complete--and much more expensive--overhall. The PCO would allow it to play adequately for you to tell if it is truely "worth it", or not. And also, a complete overhall would not make it play significantly better, although its comsmetic appearance would be improved with the new pads, general cleaning and repainted logo (if that is even possible, given its brand). You just need it, for the moment, to play adequately so you can determine it's quality--and, ultimately, if clarinetting is really any fun. But be warned, clarinetting is extremely addictive--like Tony Soprano says, "Once you're *in*, you can't get out".

Have it given a PCO and see how it plays--and then, as we say, "Play it by ear" from there. Good luck and welcome.

Yeah :)
I am just going to get them to fix any real basics as I do not want to spend a lot of $ on this instrument if I am ultimately going to buy my own.

It seems be ok and getting it to playing condition is not going to cost me much at all - as it's absolutely fine except for the cork on the join in the middle...

I loved clarinet when I played it in high school about 5 years ago - had an Artley clarinet which was cheapish but nice, but then I started Bass Clarinet (luckily on a brand new one the school had bought!) and sold the clarinet..stupid stupid teenager me, as when I left of course I was with no instrument! Now years later I want to get back into it, and am already re-addicted.

(Luckily I have lots of music thanks to my other half having played the organ for many years)
