I was wondering if anyone out there knows what the top studies for trumpet are. Like how the Rose studies are standards for the clarinet. I'm asking this because I have a friend who plays the trumpet and I would like to buy her a nice study book, or solo book for Christmas and I don't want to ask her what the top books are because I'm sure she will relize why I want to know. Anyways I hope someone knows something about this.

The Arban Complete Conservatory Method For Trumpet is the rough equivalent of what the Klosé Method is for clarinet.
By the way...The Arban book is an excellent study book to use for clarinet. A feature that I like about the Arban book is that all the exercises, melodies, duets, themes and variations, etc... all lie (for the most part) between C4 and C6, thus the student gets to build technical skills in the most used clarinet register...GBK

Melissa --
If you know (or can find out) who your friend's trumpet teacher is, you could call the teacher and ask for suggestions.

I have an Ackerman reproduction of the Denner boxwood 2 keyed clarinet in C and playing baroque trumpet music on it makes me understand how the clarinet got it's name. The sound is remarkably trumpet-like. (of course some people may think I sound like that anyway)
