My daughter is in her 3rd year of band and is ready to step up to a better instrument. I have been looking at used instruments for price reasons. I have found a one-owner '59 LeBlanc Classic with an asking price of $700. It has been recently overhauled. Is this a good horn? Does this seem like a reasonable price? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

If in good condition, this should be reasonable. The Classic was one of Leblanc's professional grade instruments. Have her try it out and if possible have her teacher look it over and try it out.

The price sounds a bit high to me since I bought a Classic via a newspaper ad for $175 [a steal]. Checking it out I found it was similar and nearly as good as my LeB L7 , vintage 70-80's. I gave it to my grandson and both he and his pro teacher are very happy with it. You might look at prices and descriptions of high-quality used clar's. via the commercial music inst. sites such as Wichita Band, Taylor, Muncy , BW & WW etc . Good luck, be selective! Don

Actually Don you did get a "steal". I've seen the major mail order and internet dealers selling comparable used instruments for up around the $700 mark or so.
