 Reg. and Inverted Ligatures?

What's the difference between regular and inverted ligatures? I am SO confused...

Regular ligatures are placed on the mouthpiece with the tightening screw or screws over the reed, between the mouthpiece and the player's chin. Inverted ligatures are put on the mouthpiece the other way around, screw or screws away from the reed, so there are no screws between the mouthpiece and the chin. (This description presumes the player is using the reed down technique with the reed contacting the lower lip, as almost everyone does nowadays.)
