I was searching for a song that I could play in competition this year and I was looking through my "New Rose Studies, 32 etudes based on the etudes of Franz Whilhelm Ferling" and I came along study No. 11 Larghetto. It looked like a decent piece and it had piano accompliment so I decided to try it out. Well I got to bar 11 and 12 and realized that it was written to low for my clarinet to play. The notes were Eb and D 4 lines below the staff. Why is this? Do I need to change it up an octave? If I do I'm afraid you won’t get the same effect because the part sounds like it needs to be low.

The clarinet part in bars 11 and 12 of Rose No.11 (of the Rose 32) has a written F3 and E3.
Were you mistakenly trying to read the non transposed clarinet line from the piano score? ...GBK

Perhaps I am crazy... but I think it is written wrong in my book. So I scanned bars 11 and 12 and that is what the attachment is. Hopefully I haven't gone mad.

The clarinet line from the piano score has been written in concert pitch and needs to be transposed up a step...GBK

ohh! gosh thank-you, ha I feel like an idiot. Would it normally tell you that it is or do you just guess? Also does that mean all of the studies in the book are written in C?

If the key signatures of the piano part and the clarinet part are the same, then the clarinet part has been written in C ...GBK

I have just purchased this new edition (Carl Fischer WF3), attracted primarily by the two piano accompaniments and the newer, cleaner typesetting. I would be curious to know if anyone has test-driven the piano accompaniments, found errata in the pieces, or have any other comments.
