I have ended up with two student clarinets over the years. I don't play any more, but I would like to keep one for me and the kids to doodle around on now and then. (Sorry, I am a lapsed musician, and they are--gasp!--violinists and cellists.)
I imagine it's probably 6 of one and half-dozen of the other, but which one would be the better one to keep? One is a Bundy--probably from the 70s--the other is a LeBlanc Normandy from 1959. I was told by LeBlanc that it from 1959 and grenadilla wood, but the body has "resotone" stamped on it, so I guess it is the pre-Vito plastic Normandy version. Both are in about the same good shape. What do you think?

Keep both! Why not? The resale value of either on the open market is minimal, they're probably of more value to you and your family as 'learning tools'. Besides, it doesn't hurt to have a backup clarinet........
DS (having more than a dozen clarinets in my basement --- can't have too many backups!)

I'm thinking about a nice lamp shade ... simple, wiring through the centre: lamp shade on top ... very, very tacky.

But think of all the boxes of bulbs he will have to go through in order to find the "right one".
(I agree, keep them both--and really, I hate clarinet lamps)

With all the talk about turning worthless or unwanted clarinets into lamps, I have to wonder--do such things as clarinet lamps even exist?

Experts say the best lamps come from METAL cls, BUT Eliminate any short circuits!! A better clist than I made his from an old WOOD piccolo! Don

Lamps!! Music stands!!! YIKES!!!! (better than potty plungers, I guess)
I knew an old local sax player who learned how to "rig" and play three saxophones (2 altos and a tenor) at once. "In The Mood" was one of his specialties. Perhaps a simialr use could be found for those multiple clarines and save them from the lampost.
Maybe Walter, Gregory or Mr. Bay could design a tri-clarinet Zinner mouthpiece?? How about it , guys???

You can never have too many clarinets.
There are three lamps in my living room: a clarinet, a flute, and a trombone. The tbone hangs on the wall with a globe in the bell - pull the slide and the light comes on.

They sell clarinet lamps (and flute lamps and horn lamps) at the Kimmel Center gift shop in Philadelphia.
