Was this horn exposed to the Shostakovich 'cello concerto, Walton 1, anything by Stravinsky or was it perchance too close to a picc and eefer just slightly out of tune ?

What would do this to your clarinet ?

Looks like somebody learned how to use photoshop! If that's an actual clarinet... and not plastic... never mind

Very cool pic tho

Could this be M.C. Escher's clarinet?

Finally, the unified quantum theory of clarinet relativity and space according to Einstien.

(why didn't Ridenour think of this first?)

I like the Xmas wreath idea. Could one also use it to practice circular breathing?

I'd like to learn to play one of those, but I don't think I'll ever get round to it.

If there are so many people on this board unwilling or unable to have a civil and balanced discussion about important issues, then I shan't bother to post here any more.

To the great relief of many of you, no doubt.

It is probably a hunting clarinet, made to be coiled around the body whilst on horseback like a hunting horn.

I think it's the new version of the old symbol of the snake eating its own tail!

It's a Klang Klarinet -- the kind played by the bird with one wing shorter than the other, so it flies in ever-decreasing circles, and, with a horrible Klang, eventually flies up its own bell and disappears.

Hi,

No, it is for either the Circle of 5ths or just some plain old playing "a round."

It's the result of playing "Frere Jacques", "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" and other rounds too often.

On the idea of playing through the clarinet, air would be continuous and all you would have to do is press the keys. Great for long tones!

Thank for amusing input everyone !

Actually this is a postcard picked up by my regular orchestral colleague whilst in Zurich. I had just described to her how I felt, after being given 5 days to stand in for another orchestra's suddenly ill principal clar. That orchestra was playing Shosta's cello concerto. Anyone who knows it will know the 1st clar part is horrendous. Additionally, the first horn part is set to take the instrument's coils OUT

This was the most accurate representation of my anatomical description of how I felt when trying to get to grips with it. I keep it with me to remind me of these times and that not all music is set up to tie you in knots. Consequently I've liked most orchestral pieces I've played since (although Strav "Symphony in 3 Movements" is coming close - same orchestra strangely)

RT (trying to avoid some, but not all long-named composers beginning with "S")

Hopefully it's not insinuating where clarinet's have their heads!

I think maybe it's just a puppy clarinet that is still in its chasing its tail phase.

Someone with far too much time on her/his hands and a copy of Photoshop is my guess
