I seem to have problems with a good clarinet and mouthpiece. Could it be the ligerature? The Reed? I'm using a buffet Rc with a vandoren B45 and the kind of metal ligature wich has two screws. i tried to invert my ligerature but my clarinet still produeced a 'pinched tone'. I'm in tune, but i cant stand playing when my sound sounds awful. Any suggestions?

Maybe you can try borrowing a leather ligature from a friend and see if there is a difference in the sound.

Do you have a teacher that you are working with? It can be a variety of things and it is hard to diagnose in this manner. If you don't have a teacher, try a few lessons with someone, it may help.

I agree with Ed -- it could be a variety of things that are tough to diagnose this way -- but your ligature could be contributing. Some players (like me) have trouble with normal (non-inverted) two-screw ligs strangling the reed too much. Those aren't meant to be inverted, so turning them around won't help -- you'll just have the other side of the lig strangling the reed instead.
Try a true inverted lig, like a Bonade or a Rovner fabric ligature.
I use a Harrison Gold inverted (no longer made) and occasionally a Joue Jolie (very inexpensive and available from International Musical Suppliers).g

Rachel,
You said "my clarinet still produced a 'pinched tone' " - I wondered if you had tried making a recording of your playing (or you could try playing into a corner of a room) to see if it really does sound as bad as you think? IMO it's difficult to judge the sound quality while you are playing the instrument.
Is this tone different from what the clarinet has produced in the past?
Changing the ligature probably isn't going to make as much difference as changing the reed (to one that is properly prepared).

Why don't you try calling one of the SSO tutors for a lesson?
Alternatively, get someone else to try your instrument with your setup and see what he or she sounds like. Try to change the mouthpiece, reed, ligature and instrument around and see if it helps.
