Hello all,
I am having a major problem with dry lips while playing. I am hesitant to use lip chap while playing as it will probably mess up my reeds and pads. Probably doesn't help that I live in Calgary, Alberta (currently -18 and humidity around 30%.) Any suggestions??
Thanks,
Nick
PS Do drink a lot of water, except when I do while playing I find that it only makes the problem worse!

Hey... I know you mentioned you don't use chapstick while playing, but have you ever tried burts bees lip balm? it is a chap stick that is all natural (ie no petroleum) and it doesn't mess up my reeds too badly. I usually put it on a few minutes before i play and then wipe it off so only a little is left on. This always works for me especially in the winter time.

Why don't you deal with this before playing? Like at night after brushing your teeth, put some moisturizer on. That should solve the problem before it starts. Then perhaps after playing, then use the lip balm.

Thanks for the advice... I actually have some Burts Beeswax that I keep in my school bag. Tried it while playing, and it works great, doesn't appear to gum up reeds too badly, and no residue to leak into my horn.
Definately use a ton of goop when I am not playing, but for long long gigs and rehersals....
Thanks for the advice!
