I need to learn how to do a glissando for an upcoming concert, but I have had little success so far. I am pretty sure it is because my mouthpiece-reed setup is not flexible enough, because I can gliss just fine on my tenor sax (with a jazz mouthpiece). I currently use a Bay Medium-Medium mouthpiece and Vandoren #4 reeds. Should I get a different mouthpiece, and if so, what are some suggestions? Or can the problem be solved with just the reeds?

I don't think the reeds alone are a problem... I can smear very easily on a Vandoren V-12 4.5. Perhaps your mouthpiece is to open or something - ? Softer reeds could be the answer, but it just depends on your mouthpiece (and reeds are a lot cheaper than mouthpieces). However, I can smear on very hard reeds and find it's even a little easier to control on a harder reed (not easier to play, but easier to control)... Who knows!

Find a private teacher who is a professional player to get help. One should be able to gliss no matter the facing...I have no trouble glissing on an open or a closed piece.
