Hello, everyone. Last night at my lessons, my teacher noted that certains aspects of my playing seem to have gotten worse over the last few months, which I had also noticed, namely tounging, and a strange buzz that has recently been present on certain (most) notes. So, after talking about it for a little while, we switched clarinets, staying on our own mouthpieces, of course. Instantly, my tonguing was 10 times clearer and the buzz was gone, strangely enough, she now had the buzz, and had great difficulty tonguing. Neither of us remember it being like this originally, in fact she had originally liked my clarinet better than hers (I did, too). This is very frustrating, as I have been working for months on improving tonguing, with no results, and then suddenly last night it was much better. She didn't seem to know what could be the cause, however, and could not find any leaks in the brief tests she conducted. Any suggestions? Will most repairers be able to fix this, or is it just the clarinet?
Thanks much,
John

IMO, it is probably a leaking or worn pad. Your repair tech will be able to correct the problem.

My new Concerto has a little bit of a ring somewhere... But it's gotten better. Others inform me that they cannot hear it from the audience. I think it might be a LeBlanc thing.
Also, my tech repair guy informs me that the way LeBlanc dress their tone holes isn't ideal for 'normal' fish skin pads, which can cause buzzing as well.
Just some things to think about. I try not to let it bother me.
