I recently played two 2.5 strength reeds on a Vandoren B45 mp, standard metal lig. I noticed that the Legere played a very bright tone and the Vandoren played a much darker tone. What's every one else's experience with these two different types of reeds on the same mp (and of course, on the same horn)?

I haven't experienced the Legere reeds yet but play a synthetic on my bari sax once in awhile. Diffent reeds (even different cane reeds) can benefit from different ligatures. I've found that using a cloth lig with the synthetic reed takes some of the edge off. My advice would be to try something like a Rovner lig with the legere reeds.

I use Legere all the time. Yes, they are a little bit brighter than the "best" cane reeds. I also switched to cloth (Rovner ED #2) after much experimentation with many ligatures (I have a collection - Optimum, Charles Bay, Bonade, BG Super-Revelation) that I take out every now and then to reverify the validity of my choices.
My mouthpiece is a wooden Charles Bay (HL), itself quite a dark mouthpiece. I found that, by using a very dark set-up with the Legere, I get a sound just about right with the excellent response, intonation, flexibility and reliability that the Legere offers. The only caveat: Legeres soften a bit (hence brighten a bit 5 minutes into the warm-up and at the end of the frist hour). Solution: switch to another as you take you health break.
I am a big fan of the Legeres. More importantly, I am told by everybody (including some accomplished players) that I have a nice sound. So, the Legere really works for me. If only I could get my air column always under control so that my sound remains nice even when I am tired or at the end of my air reserve... Long tones, soft tones, practice...

I have been using the Lerere for about 2 weeks on my clarinet. I find it is about 1/4 to 1/2 harder than my usual V-12 Vandorens. I also find it plays for me as good as my vandorens, maybe a little "Darker" than the Vandorens. The only problem I have with the Legere is the Altissimo range above A. It plays excellent up to and including A fine but I find it almost impossible to get any higher. Since I have no problem using my Vandorens throughout the Altissimo up to and including C, I believe it to be the Legere characteristics preventing me from the total Altissimo range.
My set-up is a Crystal MP with a BG Revelation Ligature, reed strength 3 on the Legere. Note, I also tried my B45 MP which I don't like as well as my Crystal and found the same problem.

I played vandorens on a B45 with a rovner lig for a long time. I thought that they had a pretty bright sound. I just changed over to Grandconcert reeds, which give me a much darker sound. I havent tried Legere reeds yet, but a bunch of clarinet players from my band were thinking of ordering some.

I tried a Legere #3 and my impression was it still lacks in complexity(tones including many overtones ,in another word, darker tone) of genuine Var cane reeds.
I use a Chadash barrel with a Greg-Smith Kasper style mouthpiece, to enhance this 'complexity' with cane reeds.
However a Legere reed seems lessen this effect very much.
The order of darkeness are (by those I tried in this 2 months):
Alexander Superial #3 > Vandoren V12 #3.5
>Marca Traditional #3 > Marca Superial #2.5
>Rico Grand Concert #3 >> Legere #3
Maybe I tried a 0.5 thicker Legerre.
Maybe Legere reed's brightness is doomed by its synthetic material's even texture.
