Well I have started to notice surface cracks on my 30 year old buffet becoming more apparent,it appears they have been touched up in the past,the repair man who I purchased it from brushed them off lightly as surface cracks,indeed the bore looks remarkably well,and uncracked. So the question is how much should I worry that they will travel through,hate to think I got ripped off.

I don't know where in the country you're at, but where I am it's starting to get drier and I've got to get that humidifier repaired!
Surface checking is more apparent in drier weather; does your repairman stand by the instrument in case it does crack?
The chances of a 30 year old clarinet cracking aren't as great as would be a new one (IMO) _unless_ the clarinet's environmental conditions greatly changed. I wince everytime my oldest son goes to Japan in the winter with his clarinets ...

I am on the Coast of Southern Calif.but have a home in desert too,thinkin about buying plastic Buffet while I hopefully put wood one in best shape possible,gonna visit repair man today.
