Hi,
I just bought new Buffet E13 and I found this little plastic thing
in the case. It looks like a barel and at the top there is this
handle that you can pull and it's on the spring. Well, I'm not sure
if I described it properly but I hope whoever knows this little piece
will know what I'm talking about.
My question: what is it for???
Mark

I think you're looking at a gizmo that you put in the top end of the lower section of the clarinet. The spring loaded device then is used to push down on the LH low E key. The idea is to keep the pads seated when the clarinet is not in use and so better preserve the groove in the pads. I've no idea whether its use is warranted.

That's indeed what it is. They come with new Buffets. I had no idea they were considered important. Apparently all the cool kids have them.

An excellent idea IMHO, use it. It also seats the low pads by the better of the two touches!! I often do this via a rubber band left [with explanation, of course] after some pad work, partic. if there are no well-developed seating rings on the low pads. I'll bet there is a patent on it, will look for it! Don
Thanx, Mark, Don

In my view it has a use only as an on-going band-aid for poorly set-up pads.
Are they supplied with new instruments? If so, I consider this to be a shameful admission by the manufacturer.
