 Really easy trios
Author: David Peacham

Can anyone suggest a book of easy trios for flute, clarinet and alto sax? I shall be visiting two young friends at the end of next week and it'd be fun to try and play some pieces with them. The sax player is about as good as me (which isn't saying much) but the flute player has only been learning for a few months.

If there's a piano part too, so much the better.

If there are so many people on this board unwilling or unable to have a civil and balanced discussion about important issues, then I shan't bother to post here any more.

To the great relief of many of you, no doubt.

If you get the separate volumes of Trios for Flutes, Trios for Clarinets and Trios for Saxophones by John Cacavas, I think that you'll probably find some items interoperable.

There is also a series of books, possibly published in England, called Three's A Crowd. These, I think are completely interoperable--and I believe that they're available at three different levels of difficulty. (all low)

WB/Belwin's Trios for All could work, although they are a little beyond the beginner level.

Amsco/Music Sales' Easy Clarinet Solos or Duets, is completely interoperable with Easy Flute Solos or Duets and Easy Alto Sax Solos or Duets. There is a piano accompaniment included with the book. They aren't trios, but many of the songs are easy.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

Hi
Yes the Three's A Crowd books should be ideal, they are published for Flute, clarinet and saxophone( and other instruments) and can all be combined, there is also a piano part. They are readily available in the UK, about £6 each, published by Chester Music. Book one states it is Easy/ Intermediate but I'm not sure if they would be suitable for somebody who's only been playing a few months, unless they're a very quick learner.

Even so, I think that Three's A Crowd is the series most worth taking a chance on.
