Does anyone have suggestions for a small but sturdy clarinet case for travel?

The Yamaha student cases are sturdy and fit nicely into backpacks. However, the only way I know of to get one is to purchase a Yamaha student clarinet (luckily, that's the first thing I played on).

The Yamaha case as sold with the (old) 26 and 34 models is available without a clarinet inside from www.dawkes.co.uk. I don't know about the new 250 case. One caution, though: the 26/34 case is adequate only if you are carrying it inside another bag. If you ever carry it on its own you should put a strap around it; the catches that are supposed to hold it shut are not to be trusted.

If there are so many people on this board unwilling or unable to have a civil and balanced discussion about important issues, then I shan't bother to post here any more.

To the great relief of many of you, no doubt.

When I needed a new case for my son's marching clarinet (1940s Pan American bakelite model) the technician we go to ordered a no-name clarinet case for $35.00 (plastic outside, latches are fine). It has space for the clarinet and a tube of cork grease, and a small space that will hold a reed case. If you want to put music in it, it needs to be folded in half.

I'd recommend asking the tech you take your instrument to, he/she may very well have a case catalogue that you can find any size and price case you want.

Or, if you can find it, the 1940s Pan American fiberglass case was a wonderful small case. The only problem we had was after 50 some odd years and 3 high school student's worth of marching band, one latch broke, and the fibers where the bell stuck out started to break down.

Try checking out ProTec. Theyve got some great ones. I have the small soft case, and took it on several trips with me. ive been using the same one for 6-7 years and it still looks great too!

Agreed that the Yamaha case is nice and small but would require protection for travel. The ProTec cases are about as sturdy and small as they come and would be ideal for travel.

I've traveled all over with my BAM single case. It's very sturdy and can take some knocking around (like, NYC subways), without any harm to your horn.
It may not be the smallest or best looking, but it is quite safe and your clarinet stays warm.

My Buffet came with a nice very hard and sturdy and small case. Too bad the only thing that fits in it are a couple single reeds and cork grease. I used to fit my cleaning cloth and cork grease in the bell to make more space.
