 Yamaha Allegro

I currently own a Yamaha Allegro. It is a great instrument in my opinion. I play with several community groups and it serves its purpose.

I was just wondering if anyone else out there has had experience playing on this model and what your thoughts are about it.

Thanks.

I played a demo model about a year ago at one of our local music shops and found the Allegro to be a pretty good clarinet. Played easy through the registers and sounded great. Also looks good with the gold plated posts.

I have test played them as they come in through our store and in comparison to its competitor (the Leblanc Regency) I founf them to be good horns, And they play real well. Though i think id have to with john, i think the gold posts are so ugly!

When you see a new Yamaha Allegro with the gold posts, it is pretty cool looking. After you play on one for awhile and the gold starts to wear off or turn green, that is a good reason not to have gold on a clarinet. I have a higher acidity in my hands and the plating wears off like nothing.

Re coastenl's remarks: I think it's a fact that real gold doesn't turn green from anything. What is turning green, in my opinion, is a copper or copper alloy strike or is from the "solder" being used. I recall once our Chairman of the Board buying his wife a "gold watch" on vacation which turned her wrist green.....as did his face when we analyzed it and found it was brass.

It is probably some oxidation between the gold wearing off and the metal underneath and my sweaty hands.. lol

Unless it's very pure gold ... as far as I understand copper is one of the alloys (at least in crappy 9ct gold and the not so crappy 18ct gold). Any scientists out there that can give some enlightenment?
