 Buffet Warranty

Hey guys,
I just bought a new R13A just over a month ago, and unfortunately there's been a chip. :( Its a rather large one on the bottom of the 2nd joint. I can tell you for sure it isn't because i dropped the horns, because i am very overprotective of them. I was however, able to find the chipped wood in pieces (????how did this happen) after a thorough search of my case. I was heartbroken when i discovered the chip. I was just flipping out.

now, my question is, do you think Buffet will cover the damages or replace the joint? I've brought the horn to the store and they said that their store wont cover it, but they are holding it for a Buffet rep who is visiting them within the week. The people at the store was kind of skeptical about what they think buffet will do. What do you think are the chances that Buffet will cover it? again, its only been a month since purchase.

Another thing. I purchased the clarinet with an American Express Card. I apparantly have protection on my card that covers damage and theft up to 1,000 per occurence. Does anyone have any experience with this concerning a stolen/damaged instrument?

thanks in advance for any information.
Terence

Have you spoken to Buffet directly?
Was the chip there when you first bought it? Was it there when you tried it out in the shop? Are you aware of Buffet's mass-produce quality problems?

I have not spoken to Buffet directly. A Buffet representative is going to the store on weds, and the store will show him/her the clarinet and they will tell me what they will do.

The chip was not there when i bought it. To my knowledge, this chip has to be fairly recent.

I am somewhat aware of Buffet's mass produce quality problems. I've heard that because they mass produce so quickly, the wood has not had enough time to age and therefore the quality isn't as great. I have no clue whether there is any truth behind it, but thats the extent of my knowledge of Buffet's mass production problems.

I am not sure whether the chip is the result of their massproduction problems, but i surely wont count that out. But the horn was fine when i bought it, and it played quite well for the month that i've had it. I just hope Buffet will replace/repair this, and quickly.

Thanks

The same thing has happened to my new B flat. I would not be too bothered with it. If you can get Buffet to repair it then go for it. But I don't think it's worth replacing the top joint. I wouldn't take my chances with a new top joint. What if your new top joint ruins your otherwise beautifully playing horn? That little chip you have is easily repairable; Ferrees has this ground up Grennadilla wood that you put in the chipped out place along with some glue. It sets up hard and you can sand it smooth.

IMO, this statement is more opinion rather than factually based and furthermore it seems out of place on this BB.
