its that time of year again!! the weather is drastically changing and it is wreaking havoc on my clarinets. Pitch flies through the roof, reeds need to be worked on, cork swells, joints/barrels are getting stuck, and the horns are freezing.
how is everyone doing/coping with this? especially the joints being stuck....it takes a lot of time and yanking on mine to finally get it off. Does anyone have any suggestions?

No problems with my horns. I keep the temp controlled at 65 degrees in the room I store my horns in.
As to reeds, I have had some problems with needing some what harder reeds...not a problem as reeds are always troublesome up NORTH.

Hah! I have been having the problem with dead reeds lately too! I used to have problems with my joints sticking, but I just grease them up. I guess the corks have gotten more impacted over the years, too. hehe

Last winter my horn's main "mechanical" problem was loose metal socket rings. I initiated a thread on this (with the incorrect title "Loose Tenon Rings"). Opinions about what to do about it varied. When I had the horn overhauled in early spring, my tech recommended to "crimp" them in a special machine. Although several BB posters recommended against that, I went along with my tech. So far, the rings have been very tight and there has been no cracking (as some posters saw as a danger). Of course, the real test comes in a few months when humidity here (New Jersey) really drops! I'll keep you informed on what happens.
