I guess I don't understand what your definition of "LeBlanc classic Bb clarinets(plural) is? Do you mean wood models not currently marketed?

If you mean the Leblanc "Classic", it is supposedly a good professional clarinet. I have seen quite a few Bb's on e-Bay go for $300-$500. A friend of mine just got one for a price at the extreme low end of that range. But, as always with e-Bay, you take the risk of not seeing the horn before-hand.
Added later: There is one on e-Bay right now with a starting bid of $199.99 (and some unknown reserve price). It has no bids yet with two days to go. Its SN is 178xx, which places it at about 1960 according to my information (NOT LATE 60's as claimed by the seller).

Henry, you do make an interesting point. eBay clarinets cover the waterfront in models,prices and quality. New horns are available for much less than list price from some of the same sources that one would purchase from outside of eBay. When one opts to get serious in the pro to semi-pro horns $300-500 is not much of a gamble in my opinion. After all, you can question the seller at length and use other criteria to decide if it's a good deal. As always, of course, cujus animan or something like that.

See my edited post above. Personally, last year I got an excellent 1964 Leblanc LL on e-Bay for $316. I am very happy with it. (I did have it completely overhauled for another $180, although I'm not totally sure it really needed it.) Just a few days ago, a much more recent and beautiful LL went for $318!

I bought a LeB Classic for my grandson about 10 years ago, for $175 as I recall. I saw and played it about 6 mo ago. It was a/the? pro cl back in the 1950-60s, a good one for then, followed by the Symphonies, and LL, L70, L7,LX, L2000 etc, not a lot of diff, IMHO among them. nuff said? The larger bore Dynamics, Pete F's etc were some different, but key-wise felt much the same. Tom Ridenhour and others can give you more info, and maybe correst what I've said. Cls are worth only what they will sell for , depends on time/place/desire etc! Luck, Don

"Classic", "Classic II" is the name of the model. Leblanc Classic is professional clarinet. In the 50's Leblanc reintroduced the "Symphonie" model, but named it the "Classic". Later Leblanc dropped the "Classic" and started using the name "Symphonie" (with a number) again.

I certainly would not pay $500 on ebay for a Classic unless I was very confident about the condition. Not too long ago I bought a Classic II from John Butler--fully overhauled, beautiful conditon, great player, $500. When you get into that price range, check John and other reputable experts first. You can be sure of what you're getting.

FWIW, the "Classic" on e-Bay I mentioned above received one bid at the starting price of $199.99. However, the reserve was not met. Unless the bidder and seller reach a private deal (not rare at all!), it's back to the drawing board for the former!
