I was wondering if anyone might have suggestions for good clarinet quartet repetoire. I'm looking for either 4 Bb or 3 Bb / Bass quartets of a hopefully fairly challenging, though not out of this world, level.
I'm familiar with a few quartets, such as the Uhl Divertimento, that I've really enjoyed, but my familiarity with the repetoire is quite limited.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Oh, one of the members has a bit of a distaste for more modern music, so if anyone knows of quality transcriptions / arrangements for quartet, those would be appreciated also. The rest of us will force him to play modern music until he enjoys it, but until that point (far off in the future) it's best to acquiesce occasionally.

You could always take a sax quartet and transpose it to the correct keys. THe range should be able to be hit with clarinets. I'm sure there are a lot more sax quartet pieces out there than clarinet quartet pieces.
Or go to www.clarity4.com. Send them an email and inquire about where they got their music or other possible pieces (I bought their CD and enjoy it thoroughly).

Here's a few others to add to your list:
Waterson- Grand Quartet
Desportes- French Suite
Hovhaness- Divertimento (modern, but still very tonal and pretty)
Smith- Suite for 4 equal clarinets
Elliot - Canon for 4 clarinets (or something like that)
As to transcriptions, some are quite good and some are pretty awful. If you need further advice, email me. I run a clarinet quartet at my university. Good luck and ejoy!
