 Playing With Pain

Here's an interesting article on musicians' physical problems, from the Salt Lake Tribune.

Mark - Could this be added to the Musicians' Health section on the site?

For those interested and in the general area the University of Connecticut has a health center for musicians:

If the truth were known I think we'd discover that those sitting in front of the percussionists suffer more hearing loss that the perc's themselves.

I don't know about the folks in front of the perc's, but this last Sunday we had a concert and the trumpets had a solo which the player normally stands for. This time he didn't and it nearly blew my left eardrum out.

Best
Rick

honesty, I didn't mean for that to happen. Anyway, the trumpet thing... (No Joke goes here) Imagine four trumpets, 4 french horns (bells up) playing a John Williams piece. Couldn't hear a thing for days.

Greg Smith had some enlightening comments on how they cope with trumpets and drums in the Chicago Symphony. http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f=1&i=79888&t=79799
