 Good clarinetist on video ????
Author: Sue G

I'm looking for a video of a clarinetist - I find it fascinating to watch people play - when I went to France recently I was spellbound by a busker who was on the Metro playing his clarinet !
Unfortunately I don't know of anyone locally who plays and am not able to have lessons myself so can't entice a teacher to play for me .............so I thought that a vidoe would be just the ticket !!
However ..........I've searched through the net and can only find "beginner videos" - I don't need to know how to put it together - I'm beyond that stage - I just want to watch a good player at close quaters !!
Any suggestions please ?
Thanks
Sue

If you can visualize B G, as played by Steve Allen [just not as good!] in the Benny Goodman Story, thats one. Artie Shaw and groups appeared in several old movies [on videos], titles in our archives [and findable]. The Glenn Miller story has some [I believe] REAL cl'ists to show the genesis of the cl-lead sax section. If you can stand an "ego-trip", my Wild Man Blues [Vid] has Woody Allen and group in several European gigs, not bad!! There is also a Dorsey [brs] story, as I recall Jimmy did some playing, Green Eyes?? Woody Herman? Others?? Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

Amazon UK shows the Mozart Concerto with Peter Schmidl (w/ Bernstein conducting) as out of stock.

Perhaps you could be on the look out for it elsewhere.

I own a copy and it is excellent....GBK

Theres are two DVDs of Benny Goodman on the market. One is the piece done on PBS called Adventures in the Kingdom of Swing, I think. Lots of clips of Benny in his prime.

A new DVD called "Farewell" features Goodman's last recorded performance around 1981 in Copenhagan and is also very good.

The Sound of Jazz (the 1957 CBS TV show) features two cuts with Pee-Wee Russell in action, as well as tenor sax grandpas Coleman Hawkins, Ben Webster and Lester Young.

Also, Ken Peplowski had a concert with guitarist Howard Alden available on video a few years ago.

Allen Cole
