cost? Because I want one so I want to save up enough money for one. Because I want to get all the different kind of clarinets out there so I'm starting with the Soprano and working up I already have the regular one.

Depends on what you want, and where you get it. I bought my Bundy Resonite for around $200, plus something like $20 for shipping. It was in working condition when I got it, but I went ahead and got the full overhaul about 9 months later, and that was another 150 bucks.

For being more of a student horn, it plays wonderfully, with great key response. It's also very durable. I have little objection to taking it outside because of the plastic body, and the more element-proof pads I had put on it when it was overhauled.

You can pay much more than I did for a new one, though. It all depends on where you look and what you want. I suggest keeping an eye on eBay, just because you never know what will come up, but just be careful, as you never know for sure what you are getting, either.

Good luck, my fellow alto player!

jenna

Make sure it's more or less in tune before you buy it. As much as any eefer can be, I mean. Just don't get an intonational disaster on your hands...

I purchased a lovely Leblanc E-flat clarinet about a year ago (it's father came and visited me even - from Rochester NY). I like it ... but if you're only a student then I might recommend a student model ... far less expensive if you suddenly get bored and take up folk dancing.
