Tone Colour - Festival vs RC Prestige
Author: Aussie Nick
Date:   2003-09-28 15:00

I have been giving a lot of thought to changing to RC Prestiges from my Festivals. After doing a search on here, and hearing from someone who works in a music store, it would seem many think the RC Prestige has a less adaptable tone colour, yet the Festivals tend to be a more spread sound. Generally I find my instruments to be quite on the bright side, and my Bb has always played fairly sharp to the point where I used to play a longer than normal barrel. Anyway I was just looking for some opinions on the two models. Thanks

Nick -

The tone color descriptions that manufacturers give their instruments are so much hot air. The RC Prestige and the Festival have slightly different bores, but the sample-to-sample variation is much greater than anything produced by the different designs.

There's no substitute for going to a store with a big stock and trying a dozen instruments to find out which one works best for you.

For things to listen for when picking out an instrument, see <http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f=1&i=41632&t=41584) .

Best regards.
