Yeah, I know YOU HATE LEGERE. Those with that mind-set need not respond. Some of us do use and appreciate Legare reeds and many do use Tenor Sax reeds on Bass Clarinet, as indicated by a previous post. So here are my comments for you. I have recently tried Legere Tenor Sax (Studio Cut) reeds on my Bass in a personal comparison test agaist the standard Legere Tenor Sax. Both 3.5 strength. I used a Fobes Boso Novo mpc, a Grabner CXBB mpc, an Anello OR mpc and a Spiegelthal reface #119 all with a Rovner OR3 Dark and also with a Rovner Lite playing the same noodling passage. To my tin ears (actually they are plastic digitals Digifocus II) they may not meet the criteria for a classical solo reed but for Jazz I think they are outstanding. IMHO they are much richer, more mellow, with a deeper fuller tone. Obviously I must be biased and in the pay of the Legare people--Not so! No connections in any way.
Would some of our non-biased synthetic using bassists care to comment as to their own findings? Is it just me or has Legare a winner here?

My friend suggested that I use Legere on my bass, but the one he let me try was too hard. I do, however, use a Legere alto sax reed on my alto clarinet, and I love it. I don't think I can play on a real reed on alto clarinet anymore. I haven't yet gotten to do the same on bass.
I think using synthetic reeds on an instrument I don't play much is a better idea than going "Oh no, I need to go to the store and buy a new reed for my alto clarinet," then being stuck with nothing. haha Yeah, I like Legere muchly.

Contragirl, et al. Before this thread gets too far off track, the question posed is a comparison between two classes of Legere reeds, and for Bass clarinet, the Standard cut versus the Studio Cut. It is not a general discdussion of Legere reeds. Thank you.

a VIRTUOSO bass clarinet player i know was picking out bass clarinet reeds at the Legere stand at Clarinetfest 2000. He tried out the Tenor sax ones and ended up getting a few of those instead of the Bass Clarinet ones. He was able to play his 5 and a half octave range at all dynamics while tounging, and with a lovely creamy tone.
however, while he found these to be quite good when trying them out, he told me some time later that when they warm up the Tenor sax ones are too "gutless" for him, although they play well cold.
i have only used Legere on soprano clarinet, and while i think they are potentially the best artificial reed i don't use them. If i was doing a lot of doubling i would definately invest in a collection.
