I have an old clarinet and on each section is stamped the full name "Penzel Muller Pruefer, New York" inside a dotted oval and also "LP" and "E" is stamped right under it on both. The serial # is on both sections "6256." I'm not sure if it's grenadilla or rosewood, but it's in good shape with the exception of pads and cork that needs replacement. It is only 19.5" long from bell to mouthpiece. I'm no expert on clarinets and I want to have this one restored and then give it to my daughter as a gift.
Can anyone tell me any information about this instrument ? Age, key, etc. or anything else ?? I have several pictures I can send to anyone if it helps to identify it.

Sounds like an Eb clarinet. The LP means low pitch or somewhere around A=440 give or take.

Does the horn have a key that 'wraps around' from the back to front of the instrument, near the Penzel logo?

Yup, sure "sounds" [reads] like an Eb cl, how does it sound?? if playable. The serial # of my 1920's PM is 8840, its a Full Boehm Bb [20/7], and is about 27" long. Taking off 1 1/2" for the low Eb, 25 1/2" is about a reg. Bb's length, a C would be about 1-2" shorter, so IMHO its an Eb. My guesswork is that it was made by Pruefer [a good maker in that time period] , to be sold as a PM [also a good maker], tho it could be vice/versa of course. At any rate its prob a good one, repair it and play!! Don
