Can anyone tell me for whom the Bernstein Clarinet Sonata commissioned to? How do I find out more information about this great piece? I appreciate any info towards this. Thanks!

On the first page of the clarinet part it says "For David Oppenheim" but I don't know if he actually commisioned the piece.

wan...

There are two biographies of Bernstein which will give you the background information on the Sonata:

Bernstein - a Biography - Joan Peyser (1987, Beech Tree Books)

Leonard Bernstein - Humphrey Burton (1994, Doubleday)

Both books are controversial, but make interesting reading, as they reveal all sides of this most fascinating individual...GBK
