 New Buffet C-clarinet
Author: Alphie

I played at the Enescu-festival in Bucharest Romainia last Thursday and was there approached by a representative from Buffet-Crampon. We talked about the new C-clarinet I mentioned in an earlier thread and he confirmed that it's coming. It's in the Tosca series and is coming next spring.

We had a very brief meeting since I only had five minutes before going on stage but he assured me that this instrument represents a new way of thinking about C-clarinets and that the sound and projection is going to be different from earlier versions. This due to changes in bore and placing/size of the tone holes. There was no time to discuss any more technicalities this time but I will visit the factory next spring and try/buy(?) a pair of them and after that I will give a more detailed report.

If you have any questions I'll put them on a list.

Looking forward to trying it! I'm not very impressed wth any of the current Boehm C clarinets. The Wurlizter German system C clarinet is much better, in my opinion. Has anybody ever tried a Rossi C clarinet?

Not Rossi - they didn't exist at the last ICA I was at (1998.) I can see why people like them, although his Bb is not the instrument for me. His C instrument will sure be one to look at.

Patricola is reasonably good. The instrument I played last summer was 6 years old, though. Newer ones may have improved.

I haven't heard about the Amati. Has anybody played one?

Leblanc is fair, but the altissimo notes were flat.

The Buffet Prestige I played also had this problem, and the scale was more uneven than the Leblanc.

I have a Steven Fox C and like it a lot, although it wants to be warmed up really well to get up to pitch. Having access to the maker is tremendous.
