 chariots of fire

For a school project I am arranging my own concert band version of Vangelis' Chariots Of Fire. I was wondering if there are any things I should take into consideration when doing this.

Slow, repetetive pieces can be very difficult to play in an engaging manner.

"Subdivided and conquer"

If you can intersperse your program so that every section gets to take the lead, it may be more interesting.

I especially like the idea of low brass carrying melody in arrangements.

More of a rehearsal thing, but keep those drag triplets even -- don't play it as an eight-quarter-eighth pattern. A band director in college drilled drag triplets into us by having us chant "pine-ap-ple pine-ap-ple pine-ap-ple... " until none of us could look at a pineapple in the supermarket without thinking of drag triplets.

After you introduce the melody, let the fire take place in the accompaniments and have the melody sort of soar above it all. Then put the melody down low and have the higher parts sing an accompaniment.

Have fun.
