Hi,
I'm playing a Noblet Bb clarinet with a Richard Hawkins student mouthpiece and a Bonade inverted ligature. I'm using Vandoren V12 2.5 reeds too.
I recently took it to a local repairer for a minor repair and he pulled his face when he saw my ligature - would only comment : "well each to his own I guess" !
I had been advised on this set up when I bought my first Buffet B 12 and just transferred it to the Noblet.
I'm not a very experienced player still .............. but I try !!!
Any views about the inverted ligature or indeed on my set up in general would be appreciated.

I always think that it is more important for young players to have good reeds, mpce, lig, more than a great instrument. It makes a much bigger difference. It will make it easier for you to play and anything that helps, great. Don't worry about what your local repair person says.

Bonade inverted ligatures are widely used by many professionals.
Make sure that your Bonade has been adjusted so that only the 2 rails contact the reed. If the bands of the ligature (which go around the mouthpiece) are touching the edges of the reed then the ligature is not working to its full potential.
I alternate between a Spriggs Floating Rail and a Bonade inverted ligature.
However, I prefer the modification of cutting out the center portion of the Bonade ...GBK

Ligatures are primarily intended to hold the reed in place.
The Germans get great sound, using string!
I recommend the fabric ligatures becuase of their durability and reduced likelihood of scratching the mouthpiece.
My first teacher recommended that a ligature be secure enough to hold the reed in place, and no tighter.
Dan Johnston recommended a much firmer ligation, to get a good seal at the 'break' between the flat table of the mouthpiece and beginning of the reed's curve.
