i don't really know about them as teachers at all but i would just like to say that i think charles neidich is a fantastic player, i have only heard his cd's never seen a concert so i can't comment on his performing style with an audience. but i have read many things on this board that state he is a show off and uses his technic a little two much to impress at times. Well im just stating that i really like to here his playing because of this it is a big motivational push when you listen to it, however i can understand that other performers do often play with more expression at times.

What do you think of Sabine Meyer, ????? i think shes great

Sometimes, the best players make the worst teachers, particularly for less than highly advanced students. I heard Ray Still (oboeist with the CSO) reduce a resonably good student oboist to tears in front of an audience during a UW-Madison lechure/demostration clinic for music majors and guests. On the other hand, Charles Nidich (Sp-???) was most gracious and supportive at a similar UW sponsered event. FYI only and good luck. (Russ Dagon continues to be my most favorite clarinet teacher)

Sabine Meyer is an amazing player. I recently purchased her rendition of the Mozart Concerto, and loved it. Before, my favorite was Ricardo Morales, but I love her expression and dynamics! Just thought i would share. :)

I played for Charles Neidich last spring during a masterclass. We worked for 45 minutes on the first movement of the Poulenc Sonata. I had heard, from my teacher and others, to expect a purely technical lesson and discourse. However, this was not the case. We worked on many musical aspects of the piece in addition to discussing posture, breathing techniques, and my mental state while performing.
I found him inventive, easy to talk to, and not at all condescending. I myself am considering him as a teacher next year as head off to grad school. I am also applying to Northwestern to see if I can study with Russel Dagon.

A question- any comments on Else Ludewig-Vehrdehr at Michigan State University? I have heard good things.
