Hi,
What I decided to do was buy a new case and modify it for a full boehm clarinet. Well I found a case made by a company called CaseCore. As it turned out this case originally came from a trade show and was not out on the market yet. When I emailed them to replace the missing keys they asked me how I got it before it "came out". (a replacement set of keys arrived 1 week later). This company is probably not familiar in clarinet circles because they (up to a few weeks ago) only made those "coffin" style cases for electric guitars. This case is their "Clarinet Flight Case" part number LF-300.
So whats the big deal? This is a very well made case. I know because I took it apart to modify it for the full boehm.
The nest is that firm white foam. The corners are reinforced with hard cardboard that was treated with, probably some sort of preservative. The aluminum frame was fastened with 3 philips head sheet metal screws at each corner. The sides were that thin plywood that is commonly used as the back panel on most dressers. The wood has a sealer on it to protect it from moisture. The handle has a rubber coating and is very comfortable. There are bumpers to protect the hinges and the side you lay down when you open it. The company said that it would not be available on their website and the first shipment went to Sam Ash a few weeks ago. The pictures that I included are of the case AFTER I modified it. Yes, me, myself, and I, all together (a rare event) modified this case for a full boehm clarinet. The case is for a standard Bb clarinet.

Fred,
The sound is beautiful, mellow and full. This clarinet is from 1936, and I believe the wood in older clarinets is far better than today.
