Davie Cane now has sax reeds listed. Has anyone tried them, or know anything about them?
Please excuse me. Should be Gonzalez.

I've been using the Gonzalez alto sax reeds with excellent success, all summer with the big band.
Like the clarinet reeds, they are single cut, with a slight taper to the butt end. The reeds are packaged with individual cardboard holders.
They are consistantly excellent, with nice projection and a long useful playing life...GBK

Thanks, GBK. Have you ever played Alexander Superials? They're my current favorite on sax, but I thoroughly enjoy Gonzalez on clarinet, and hope the sax reeds compare well to Superials--Gonzalez is significantly lower priced!

Tim,
I'm in the process of trying the Gonzalez alto sax reeds (once the supply of various strengths improves so I can find my ideal number ). My initial reaction is that they are going to be more consistent and longer-lived than the Vandoren Java or Rico Select Jazz that I've been using. I'm eager to get a few more to try................

Dan... There is adequate supply of the Gonzalez sax reeds and they were ready to be sold quite some time ago. The problem causing the delay (which has now been solved) was in the packaging, which Davie Cane has high standards about.
As I understand it, the improvements are now in place and the supply should quickly increase ...GBK

Well, I'm trying the Gonzalez tenor sax reeds. So far they seem to be rather stuffy compared to the Superials. I'm just at the end of the one week break-in period, so time to try Dutch rush on the sides. There seems to be a lot of potential, but also the need for some adjusting to make them play the way I like. Or maybe I bought too hard a reed. A 2.75 Gonzalex is a seriously stiff reed, much harder than a 3 Superial. Both Gonzalez and Superials have strong hearts, but the Superial seems to have thinner, more lively, sides. It may be difficult to dethrone Superials.

Tim K... If after a week of break-in the Gonzalez reeds are too stiff, I would venture to say that the reed was the incorrect strength size for you. Your correct size should play at the desired strength you need or just slightly harder than you need when first tried out of the box...GBK

Yes, GBK, I believe you're right (as usual). I slapped a Gonzalez on the narrower-tip mouthpiece that came with my tenor, and it played very well, not at all stuffy. Obviously I need to use a softer Gonzalez on the wider tip I normally use.
