Using a Vandoren M 14 mouthpiece on soprano Bb clarinet, I play 3 1/2 to 5 (usually Vandoren silver box) reeds. All are moody. What responds one day might be dull the next. Has anyone tried the bari or Legere on a Vandoren M 14 mouthpiece?
I have played the same Bari star medium on my bass clarinet for 1 & 1/2 yrs. Better response than any reed ever gave me on my soprano.
Thanx, Oma

No real info for you regarding the VanDoren mpc, but I am experimenting with a couple of new Legere reeds on my Chicago Kaspar 14 and a couple of Charles Bay (Ithica vintage) mpcs. They seem to play differently than the ones I tried a couple of years ago responding more like the "real thing" cane reed. I actually used a newly purchased Legere 3.5 in a pit orchestra the same day that I bought it and no one noticed any difference, even during some pretty exposed solos. I still prefer the "sound" of cane, but it is a pleasure to play a reed (Legere) that is ready to go from the start and does not change half-way through the first act. And the differences in "sound" as I percieve it, may not be "that big a deal" as long as the new sound is also "good". What is a good sound??--lets not get into that this am. ;>]
I have tried Bari reeds on most of my saxophones and clarinets and do not like them--uneven response and sound in the different registers, especially on sop clarinet. Some local players prefer the Fibercell reed to the Bari, but I have not tried them--no help there. For me, so far, it's the new Legere's, at least on my sop and bass clarinets. Hope this helps a byte!!!

I've found Fibracells to be very good on sax and clarinet.
