I went back to the music store downtown and the shop keeper told me again that it was an Ab. I think he is saying Eb because of the letter pronunciation here in germany. Would that be a better possibility? I cant seem to find anything an Franz Mach anywhere.

As I mentioned to you in a private note, an Ab would be highly unusual. An Eb is a possibility, but the clarinet would still be significantly smaller than usual.

Play a "C" on the clarinet and see what pitch it matches on a piano.

Pronunciation of German "E" is very similar to English short "A", as in 'mate'. German "A" is usually pronounced like English long "A", as in 'ah hah'. Take it from there....
